Gaughan on
Texas Motor Speedway: “I still love Texas. I’m always going to love Texas. Even if it’s not the racing
side of me, the cowboy side of me says I love Texas. Right now with the Orleans Racing team getting back on the
horse, so to speak, this is a stop that is important. At Atlanta we proved that we had a good truck but it took
us a while to get running. Atlanta was kind of a test. We have a starting point that will be better than where we
started at Atlanta. With any luck it will be a great starting point for here and we’ll be faster, right off the
bat, than we were there.
“Every time we go to Texas everybody talks about four wins in
a row and how great Orleans Racing used to be at Texas Motor Speedway. Well, Bryan Berry and Tom Buzze and Kevin
Kroyer and I are working very hard to make this the Orleans Racing team that is great at Texas.
“Our test at Texas World Speedway went alright. For the past couple years everybody on the team just
kind of went there to pacify me. This time we went down there and put data on the trucks. Bryan and Tom realized
that you really can learn a lot there if you really take is seriously. There are a lot of positives there. We’ve
got to go back there with a bunch of different aero channels and really do some really good, real-life wind
tunnel type things. When we go back there for the next Texas race we’re going with all those aero sensors because
Bryan and Tom definitely think that there’s an advantage to going to Texas World Speedway.
“This year at our test we learned a few things. NASCAR’s made it very difficult by basically telling us we
can’t get Goodyear tires. So it’s very difficult to go down there because Texas World Speedway chews up tires
really fast. The asphalt down there is real, real old. We learned some of the things we needed to. We didn’t get
through all of our test plan but we got through most of it. We had about three different things that we changed
there that we’re taking up to Texas Motor Speedway. So things are positive.”
