Rain, Qualifying Draw Hinder Gaughan's Mansfield Efforts

Brendan Gaughan will start 35th in his No. 77 South Point Chevrolet Silverado tomorrow in the Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway.

Following two successful practice sessions in which Gaughan told his team that he couldn’t be happier with his Silverado, the .5-mile track was soaked by several rain showers during the course of the afternoon.

When the rain showers finally moved out and jet driers had cleared the track, Gaughan was the first truck who to qualify.

“It’s just the luck of the draw,” Gaughan said. “We have a great South Point Casino Chevrolet. And a lot of guys in the pits have all come by throughout the day saying that they know how good our Silverado is.

“But it rained, took all the rubber off the track. Then the jet driers went out with all the kerosene making the track slick, and we had the dreaded number one draw.

“I didn’t hold back, but my Chevy just slid everywhere all over the track. It’s just the luck of the draw.

“Tomorrow, I’m just going to have to do my best Dennis Setzer impersonation and see if I can make my way from the back this time and not get a call from NASCAR at the end of the race. We have a good enough truck and a good enough team that I know we can do it.”

The Ohio 250 will air on FOX tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT.
