Second Day of Short Track Testing Has Gaughan Ready for Martinsville
A second day of testing at Ace Speedway in North Carolina proved to be another successful event for Brendan Gaughan and the South Point Racing team today.
“Our performance was awesome yesterday,” Gaughan said. “And it was better than that today.”
The South Point Racing team tested various shock packages on its Chevrolet Silverado, so that Gaughan could give feedback to the team on each individual set.
“I never say this, but I am looking forward to Martinsville.”
Several more trucks joined the South Point Racing team at the test today, including the Nos. 9 and 30 Toyotas.
“We had some pretty stiff competition out there today with the Toyotas,” Gaughan said. “Mike Hillman Sr. let us borrow a set of tires – they were running softer tires – to try and compare our speeds to theirs. And we were faster than their truck.
“Hillman is a good friend to this team and he is always taking care of us, but if we keep getting faster.”
After loading up the No. 77 Chevrolet, Gaughan and his team also helped another truck at the test, driven by a young kid who will try to make the race at Martinsville.
“That’s what racing is all about – helping each other,” Gaughan said.
