Diversionary Tactics

Craftsman Truck Series driver Brendan Gaughan held court during media day yesterday, drawing writers with his animated stories.

He told of - and showed - how his 89-year-old grandmother crosses every finger during his races. He also gave credit to his mother for staying calm through the race but said his crew tries to help with that.

"My mom sits behind the pit box, listens to the headset, and when there's a wreck, she gets up and walks to the wall.

"The guys tell her to look the wrong way first, and then they see me get out and they say, 'Oh no, he's over there.'"
