Gaughan And Team Pleased With First Day Of Homestead Testing
Brendan Gaughan and the South Point Racing team returned to action on Wednesday with the first day of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Gaughan and his Las Vegas-based race team were excited to return to the 1.5-mile oval as it was the scene of the team’s best finish in 2006. In last year’s season finale at Homestead, Gaughan led 12 laps before finishing in the runner-up spot behind Mark Martin.
“We had a good race here at the end of last year, and it gave a big morale boost to the whole team,” Gaughan said. “We changed manufacturers to Chevrolet in the off season, and we’ve been running up front all day in the test. The guys are walking around with smiles on their faces, and a lot of people are noticing what this team is doing.”
As of the dinner break, the No. 77 was posted second on the leader board, a tenth of a second behind Mike Skinner.
“We’re doing some real testing now, and it’s going great,” Gaughan said during the dinner break. “We’ve run the same times in qualifying and in race trim, so we couldn’t be happier with what we are doing in our Chevrolet Silverado.
“We really like the balance of our Chevy. It feels really good right now.”
The team will continue testing until 9 p.m. ET tonight. The No. 77 South Point Racing team will return to the track again tomorrow for another day from testing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.
