Notes of Interest:
In Brendan Gaughan’s five starts here he’s taken four wins and one 27th place finish to give the Las Vegas native an impressive 6.2 place average finish record. The hopes are to continue to buttress that record, and improve upon it in this week’s Silverado 350K.
After Gaughan swept four races over the 2002 / 2003 season he was voted into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Gaughan on Texas Motor Speedway:
“The problem is when you have a record as good as we’ve enjoyed at Texas Motor Speedway it’s tough to always hold up to it. I think our average finish was 1 (four wins in four starts in 2002 / 2003) before we had the battery and alternator problems here this past spring and finished 27th. That hurt our averages a little bit. I’d love to get back on the right track.
“We went to Texas World Speedway and had what I deem a fairly successful test. We went fastest as we’ve ever run there. I’ve been very optimistic recently but my optimism has turned into cautious optimism. Our Dodges aren’t doing just what we think they’re supposed to do yet. I’d like to go to Texas Motor Speedway and be top-10 or top-five truck. Any time you’re racing for a top-10 or top-five you have a chance to get a “W”.”
WILL YOU RUN THE FAMED LONESTAR TRUCK THIS WEEKEND? “Sentimental value is worth a lot but Lonestar just hasn’t had the performance that we want this year. And with all the problems we’ve had this year trying to fix things and get better equipment we’ve got four trucks that we’ve done a lot of engineering on and done a lot of wind tunnel work with. One of those is truck No 16. That’s the truck we ran at Vegas. It only did two laps but qualified real well. We think truck No. 16 might be the answer to some of our problems. We think it’s going to be really good. We ran it at Texas World Speedway and it ran fast so we’re cautiously optimistic going into Texas Motor Speedway.”
