Even though rookie Brendan Gaughan, who ran up front nearly the whole race, slipped near the end, the drivers running out of fuel bumped him into a sixth-place finish, a career best.
Gaughan was the highest finishing rookie for the second time this season and the second consecutive race. He required treatment at the infield care center after the race for heat exhaustion and blistering.
"I burned myself up a little bit, but it's part of the sport," Gaughan said.
"I got a little tired today. Anybody who wants to say race car drivers aren't athletes needs to come see me. It's a tough sport. Nobody can make fun of anybody, first to 43rd, today."
