Brendan Gaughan started the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 in the 16th position. He stayed around 16th for a while until sliding back to 21st after losing a lap to the leader Kasey Kahne. On lap 118, caution was called out for debris and Brendan got the lucky dog pass after passing Harvick right before the caution.

On lap 156, Brendan moved his car into the 16th position. He was running lap times of 176.2230 and he was 21.710 seconds behind the leader Kasey Kahne.

Brendan made his green flag pit stop on lap 185 and he stayed in the 16th position but went a lap down again.

On lap 190, Mayfield passed Gaughan moving him back to the 17th position. On lap 195, Brendan ran a 180.7230 making him the fastest car on the track.

Ryan Newman, who was running in 10th place, brought out the caution on lap 197 after having a tire problem. Mayfield, who was right ahead of Brendan got the lucky dog.

The green flag came out on lap 204 and Brendan took off! He earned his lap back from the leader and stayed in front for 10 laps until going a lap down.

On lap 223, Bobby Labonte pit moving Brendan into 15th. He was running a 181.4580 making him again the fastest car on the track.

Brendan came in to pit on lap 233 after a problem with the car. The team decided the problem with the car was fatal and they put it behind the wall for the rest of the race.
