Practice Session at Bristol Motor Speedway
Brendan Gaughan and the South Point Racing team turned 38 laps in an open practice session at Bristol Motor Speedway on Tuesday before rain ended the team's day.
Before the rain, Gaughan's No. 77 South Point Chevrolet Silverado was second quick on the board. With the previous test at Bristol in July and Tuesday's practice, Gaughan and crew chief Bryan Berry are confident for tomorrow's race.
"We planned on going until 3 today and then changing an engine, but the rain came at about 2:30, so that kind of changed our plan," Gaughan said. "We were second quick when the rain came, so the boys went to work to change the engine.
"When the track went back green, it had cooled down and it was a lot faster so we dropped on the board. But we know we have a top five Chevrolet Silverado for tomorrow. We've got the engine changed and we are ready to go, so we will have all of practice tomorrow. Our plan worked out, and I think we have a very good truck."
Before the practice started, Gaughan and his new wife, Tatum, were surprised by the South Point Racing team with a special "Just Married" decal on the truck's tail gate and a trail of cans from the rear of the truck.
"The fun thing about the owners we have is we can do what we want," Gaughan said. "The guys knew we got married this weekend, so they had a little fun at my expense and I thought it was hillarious. We have fun together - and now we want to have fun with a win at Bristol."
